Artist's Description
Cadillac Mountain is the major destination for visitors to Acadia National Park. Accessible by car, it is the highest point on the east coast of the U.S., and offers magnificent views of a glaciated coastal and island landscape.
Millions of years ago, the earth's tectonic and volcanic forces pushed the land upward to form the mountains on the island. Then, during ice ages that followed, huge 1 - 2 mile high and slow moving glaciers sheared off the top leaving the rounded off appearance we see today.
Largely composed of pink granite, it is covered with spruce and pitch pine forests, tiny sub alpine plants (such as cinquefoil), short gnarled trees, wild blueberries, and boulders of all sizes and shapes.

About Jan Mulherin
I am from a very small town in Central Maine. I have been married for over 32 years and have four grown children and four grandchildren. While I love photography, I do not have a lot of time to enjoy it. I work full-time and help with daycare for two of my grandchildren. When I have time, I take full advantage and I am usually gone for an entire day between travel and the photography. For many years, I kayaked in the same three ponds in Litchfield, Maine. About three years ago, I started to get bored. I wanted more. So, I ventured out to other large bodies of water - preferring to kayak on rivers and streams which seemed to provide a variety of wildlife and great sunrise and sunset opportunities. It was not until this summer...
