Description
I followed this poor guy up and down the Royal River in New Gloucester, Maine. He became less than patient with me and ended up hiding in a pine tree just a few minutes after this shot was taken.
The great blue heron (Ardea herodias) is a large wading bird in the heron family Ardeidae, common near the shores of open water and in wetlands over most of North America and Central America (Wikipedia).
