Immediately upon landing in Kennicott, I fell in love with the exquisite beauty of Mount Blackburn. Mount Blackburn was already covered in snow when we arrived in-town and because it was one of the few completed covered, it demanded your attention. I must have taken 50 photographs of this mountain at many different angles. My husband would just roll his eyes each time I raised my camera.

The Kennicott Glacier and Mount Blackburn are nestled within the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. The Kennicott Glacier is not white like you would assume a glacier would be, it actually looks like big piles of sand and rock. We were told this was caused during its formation as it pulled the sand and rock from the surrounding mountains that caused the initial formation of the glacier. While you are hiking in the area, if you listen, you can hear many rock slides onto the glacier below.

I am from a very small town in Central Maine. I have been married for over 32 years and have four grown children and four grandchildren.
