This photograph was taken early one morning at the Height of the Land Scenic View in the Rangeley Lake Region. My destination was Bald Mountain, but there was no way to drive by this beautiful view.

There's no official sign or designation but you’ll know when you’re there. Driving along Maine State Route 17, the land abruptly drops off to the west and the view opens up to the far edges of the Maine mountains at the New Hampshire border. Height of Land, on the top of Spruce Mountain in Rangeley, is a real place, but when you're standing on the evergreen boundary looking out over the wide valley, the landscape is impossibly surreal and spectacular. I am from a very small town in Central Maine. I have been married for over 32 years and have four grown children and four grandchildren. While I love photography, I do not have a lot of time to enjoy it. I work full-time and help with daycare for two of my grandchildren. When I have time, I take full advantage and I am usually gone for an entire day between travel and the photography. For many years, I kayaked in the same three ponds in Litchfield, Maine.
